Jerry Yang hunts for second bracelet

Jerry Yang, the improbable 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event champion, is in the hunt for his second bracelet this week. With 127 left in the $3,000 no-limit hold’em event, he currently sits in eighth-place with 1.68 million in chips, or 86 big binds.

Yang, who won $8.25 million in 2007, has yet to win another WSOP event since then. His best is a fourth-place finish in a WSOP Circuit event at Thunder Valley Casino in 2022, but the man has been busy.

Yang took his winnings, donated 10%, and then become a restauranteur, even naming his first place after the hand that won him the WSOP Main Event — “Pocket 8’s Sushi & Grill.”

He now owns Shobu Japanese in Fresno, Calif., which is one of the more popular Japanese restaurants in the city. According to profile on Yang by the magazine “fresnoland,” after 16 in the restaurant business, he’s approaching retirement. His optimism and joy of life came through in the article.

“I hope I can inspire some young people one day, especially those who want to get into one of the hardest industries,” Yang said. “When you don’t dream, there is no reality. And, once you do, anything is possible.”

Jamie Gold’s company giving away Main Event seat

Jamie Gold, the 2007 Main Event champ, is helping give away a $10,000 Main Event seat through a company he has partnership with MyStandard, “a Web3 content monetization platform that enables creators to monetize their content and influence with transparency and trust.”
